Project CARS 2 - Ginetta Mini Series arrived
In May we launched the Ginetta GT5 Challenge Mini League in Project CARS 2. Despite only being powered by a 1.8 litre engine producing around 160 brake horsepower, the light and nimble Ginetta GT5 cars provided some close and intense racing in the first 2 rounds of this 4 event season. Each event features a 15 minute sprint race and a 30 minute feature race, starting in reversed grid order to spice things up a little.
The season kicked off at the Nürburgring, where fab. ICEMAN dominated the first event, winning both races in the Eifel. This gave him a nice head start in the championship ahead of Puffpirat, who finished P5 in the sprint race and P2 in the feature race.
The second event, at Oulton Park, showed another strong run by fab. ICEMAN, finishing P2 in the first race and P1 in the second race. His main championship rival Puffpirat managed to win the first race and finished P3 in the second race behind Stokemon in P2. The championship fight was now well and truly on!
At the half-way stage, fab. ICEMAN is leading the championship with 141 points, followed by Puffpirat on 120 points in what is looking to be a two horse race for the championship. firefly is currently holding P3 in the standings with 83 points. With two more races left to run, there are plenty of points to be scored and a lot of great battles yet to be fought.
iRacing - The 24 Hours of the Nürburgring
Here is the well summed-up race report from the team captain grobi0815:
"Before the race we were all hyped for the start of the race. Just as with our 24h of Daytona race, C. Tscharf was visiting me again and I have to say, these kind of events are extremely fun for me when I don't have to do them "alone". To do it with Constantin is always a pleasure (dude, you will be always welcome at my place) and was one of the best things I experienced during my sim racing career.
The start was absolutely stunning, Constantin doing a great job in his first double stint - it was awesome to watch him live at my rig. Our second driver, Vernux, too over, with our car in P3 and also did a superb job.
I knew before the race that I'm the slowest driver of our group. My goals were to keep the car out of trouble and do some 8:18 times. The initial nerves we all get at the start of our stints soon settled but, sadly, I failed in one of my goals and I was the first one to crash the car, adding a minute of optional repairs to my stop. With that extra minute, my pace and our strategy, I handed the car over to our 4th driver in P6.
t0daY then did a great job. Fast lap times, very stable, very safe. Constantin's 2nd stint didn't go as well as his first, with a crash resulting in a loss of some top speed but still putting some very fast laps in. It's that time of the night when everybody gets sleepy and with Manu and Constantin trying to sleep and Vernux and myself trying to stay awake, Vernux somehow managed to kill 3 Mazdas and a Porsche . But all in all, he did another great job and the car was still driving fine after the accidents.
3:30 am and with almost no sleep, I took over for my 2nd session. I was a bit slower then in my first stint, but the track was very clean and traffic was fairly light (even having just overtaken 10 cars from the lower classes). Both stints were flawless without any incidents and it helped enormously to have Vernux and t0daY at my side through them.
With t0daY back at the wheel, and another 30 minutes of my trying to stay awake, we had our only big accident of the event. We had to pit and get repaired but the car was at least still driveable and that the wheel was straight. I then woke Constantin and it was time for me to sleep. It took less than 5 minutes for me to enter my dreamland .
3.5 hours of sleep and I was awake again and with a quick shower to wake me up, I was ready to go for my final double stint. With a change of stint strategy overnight, we now had 3 hours to go and, as is always the case, this is the hardest part of the race. Mentally and physically exhausted, your hand/eye coordination isn't the best and that resulted in my crashing the car a second time. With a slightly broken car and a broken wheel myself (the pit limiter button triggering by itself), it was time for t0daY to do the final 1½ stints and bring the car home. And bring the car home on the podium as we were now in P3, courtesy of a big accident ahead of us.
This was the most intense race I have ever had. I'm extremely proud of my teammates and myself because, not only did we survive, we put our car on the podium in the 3rd split! That's something I did not expect."
Here are the last couple kilometers before the finish:
rFactor 2 - Mixed feelings at the 12 Hours of Bathurst
May saw Round 3 of the P1-gaming endurance series, taking place at Bathurst for a gruelling 12 hours. For this event we entered 2 Porsche 911 GT3s and 1 Rookie team driving in the Touring car class. With hundreds of laps completed in practice, each team had a good understanding of the car and track.
Car #114 driven by Stokemon, steveg200, Jamesl91 – We went into the race with only Plan A, this was to finish the race with as little damage as possible. Stokemon qualified our car in P15 and took a steady approach to the start of the race to avoid any damage. We had good, consistent pace all race which allowed us to have some fun overtaking up and down the hill. After an exciting 12hours we finished the race in P9, with 332 laps completed.
Car #115 Driven by Battenberg and t0daY - A strong quali session saw them put the car P5 on the grid. After a good start to the race they were caught up in a big crash at the top of the hill. It might have dented their car but it didn’t dent their enjoyment and commitment, with both drivers pushing hard for a strong result, They crossed the Line in P5 after their action-packed race.
Car #118 Driven Jonno and Ranjanado - A complete Rfactor2 Rookie team, taking part in their very first endurance race, with only 1185323118 having had some previous endurance experience in Iracing. Despite some issues at the start of the race, they got their heads down and battled through a tough race. Each of them did an outstanding job and showed commitment and determination to finish the race.
Overall it was an exciting and sometimes stressful 12hours, but very enjoyable and with strong results to show for the efforts. Each and every one of the drivers are a credit to RSR! Bring on Round 4!
