Welcome RSR Members, to the July 2018 Issue of the RSR newsletter!

Donations
We have had another fantastic month with donations from our members raising €60.
To help ensure the long-term continuation of RSR and its associated outlets, please consider donating to help support its operation and enable us to continue to provide the best service and experience we can.

Help keep our forum awesome!
XenForo (the software behind our amazing forum) recently released a new version of their product, given the innovative name XenForo 2. This is a significant change for us at RSR as all plugins previously purchased are no more compatible with this new iteration. Therefore, we need your support and generosity to help rebuy new versions of the plugins we use (beginning with the most important ones) in order to be able to upgrade and maintain, at the same time, the fantastic forum structure and features we proudly provide here at RSR.

Any donation big or small is highly appreciated. We thank you for your continued support and generosity in helping keep our community running.

Project CARS 2 - Return of the Cup!
With the preseason test race out of the way, and the hype bubbling over in the forums, round 1 got underway for Season 5 of the Revolution Cup at the Nurburgring. If the opening rounds were anything to go by, we should be in for a season with unprecedented levels of excitement and intrigue.

In split 1 it was a new name at the top of the podium in both races, as F4H Murphy asserted his position as championship frontrunner. The F4TX driver didn't have it all his way though, as the recently crowned GT Endurance champion ProjectPD put up a strong challenge to finish a close 2nd in both races. Alex Salmon and Diluvian rounded out the podium in each race. The tight competition really shows in the team standings, with the top 3 separated by a single point each. Bad Boy Racers (Puffpirat & Elodyr) lead the way, with F4TX (F4H Murphy & TX3 Ulti) and B&N Motorsports (ProjectPD & kaleeb42) nipping at their heels.

In split 2 it was a similar story for the top 2 steps of the podium, this time with Jamesl91 kick-starting his title challenge with a pair of wins ahead of Nada. RSR veterans xImJakeyy and Invincible both had an up and down evening, with a podium and not so successful race each over the evening. Jamesl91's win helped put his team into the lead of the standings, with Freaky Fast Racing (Jamesl91 & Freak Superman) 8 points ahead of KYMA Racing (Nada & eagle). Not Fast but Furious (benimi & Ironman5970) lie third 30 points off the leader.

New for season 5 is the cross-split team championship, where teams from each split are paired up by their livery choice. Fortunately for them, the two leading teams from each split are paired together under the Team Sheriftizer banner (Bad Boy Racers & Freaky Fast Racing); a clear 32 points ahead of BN Entertainment (B&N Motorsports & Not Fast but Furious); and 52 points ahead of Vasmac Motorsport (Stamp Licker Motorsport & Vasmac Motorsport).

Driving Standards Update
We have updated our Driving Standards, please have read through the new 1.4 Lapping section:

1.4 Lapping

  • 1.4.1 - Same-Class Lapping - When a lapping car approaches you, it is your responsibility to allow the faster driver to pass at the earliest possible safe location, e.g. lifting on a straight or yielding the apex in the next braking zone. It is also helpful to alert the lapping driver over TeamSpeak, e.g. “Pass me on the left.”
  • 1.4.2 - Multi-Class Lapping - If you are going to be lapped, you should hold your racing line and leave the other driver responsible for making a safe pass. By sticking to the racing line, your movements are more predictable. It is also helpful to lift off the throttle or open up a braking zone, to allow the lapping car to pass sooner. If you are aware of the lapping car early enough, you may move off the racing line, provided it is safe to do so. As with same-class lapping, TeamSpeak communication is recommended.
  • 1.4.3 - The lapping car may flash their headlights or give a notification in Teamspeak to alert the lapped car of their intentions. You must act upon this as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • 1.4.4 - If you are going faster than a car that has lapped you, do not attempt to unlap yourself without permission from the driver in front - eg by request on Teamspeak.
  • 1.4.5 - We would advise all drivers to enable the relative box on the hud, to give a clear picture of the race happening immediately around you. This will inform you how to approach overtaking situations - whether to fight, yield, or be patient. Real-time gaps of cars in front and behind of you on the track are shown, along with their class and race positions. The names are coloured as follows:
    • White - On the same lap as you, you racing for position.
    • Blue - On a lower lap than you, you are lapping them.
    • Red - On a higher lap than you, they are lapping you.
    • Grey - In pits / retired

iRacing - Big result at Spa-Francorchamps
Second month of the re-start of the iRacing group and we are already about to pick up the first fruits of our labours. We had 2 cars in the grid for the third big endurance race this year, with a lot of drivers starting their first 24h race.

And what a result from the RevolutionSimRacing #354 car. Dutchtastic, t0daY, Puffpirat and Imthecrabby started in split 2 out of 9. With a high percentage of very experienced drivers, they started from P40 and rolled though the field, driving a near-flawless race to finish in 10th place. Here is the race report from Manu:
Puh, time has passed and what can I say?? P10 BABY!!

I never imagined we would possibly end up in Split 2 which is in a single class race quite an achievement. @Dutchtastic was starting our race and holy moly, those first 2 hours were pure enjoyment to watch. By the end of his stint, he already gained like 10+ positions. We even renamed the bus stop to "Dutch Stop" because he could overtake literally everyone there.

First double stint for me, I was super nervous and just hoped I would not bin the car away. As always I struggled the first stint pace wise, my second stint was better and by the end of it I could finally kinda "match" Duchtastics lap times. No contact, No spin, no drive-through penalty, goal achieved!

Next on the list was @Imthecrabby and although he kinda vanished from RSR for quite a few months his performance was outstanding. Fast, steady, no wild maneuvers, perfect!

After another double stint from @Dutchtastic, it was finally time for the all-time RSR alien @Puffpirat to get into the car. Same as crabby, nothing negative to say about his driving. Although I was quite happy that I am at least in iRacing quicker than him :p

Many people keep asking me, "How is it?" or "Why are you driving 24 hour races?". It is really easy!

It is all about the experience. The experience with 3 other drivers working for a common goal. Or the fact that you have to fight for position at 3:00 at night. Or if you bin the car, the race is over... for all of you!

I can't thank @Dutchtastic, @Puffpirat and @Imthecrabby enough. It was a pleasure to share a car with you. Those were funny 24 hours, I enjoyed every second of it!

Also a big thank you to @grobi0815, who convinced me to continue racing in iRacing in general, who gave me the motivation and fun back. You took over the iRacing section with 2 people left, nearly dead, and look how your work is already paying of.

Thank you guys, Le Mans is waiting :)

The RevolultionSimRacing #93 car of (C. Tscharf, N1kmido, CrisBCros, Nismo and grobi0815) sadly had an awful race. Starting with a bad decision, technical problems and a big crash at the 6-hour mark left them with no option but to retire the car.

In August, we will be attending THE definitive 24-hour race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We already have a good group of drivers lined up and are aiming to field 2 cars again for this race. We hope to see a lot of you in our streams, cheering us on, providing that same great support we got from you in the Spa race!

rFactor 2 - Competition is growing
July saw RSR enter 5 teams, across a range of cars, into the P1-Gaming 6Hrs of Istanbul. 3 of the teams opted for the 'lively' Ferrari, the TC team elected to run in the Ford Focus and finally, our first Academy team chose to run in the Bentley GT3.

With so many RSR cars taking part we quite often found ourselves meeting our fellow members on track. With t0daY and Alex Salmon on a different strategy to the rest of us, allowing them to pull a gap of more than a lap, they would spend most of the race fighting for P5. The other Ferrari drivers battled throughout the race for P13/14. The final pit stop saw Nighttiger stop only for fuel, giving Jamesl91 a chance - who had stopped for tyres in the final stop - to put in some quali-pace laps, on his fresh rubber, to reign in the leaders at more than 3 seconds a lap. After almost pushing the leaders along, the team chose to finish safely and bring the car home, rather than risk it all.

Meanwhile, in the remaining cars, the Bentley had connection issues and was forced to retire, after showing strong pace from the 2 rookies, whilst the Touring Car team had a tough race, showing good pace but struggling with a tricky car - this was certainly one race they wanted to quickly forget.

We are now looking ahead, with great anticipation, to the next P1-Gaming race, a thrilling 12hrs of Le Mans.

Finally, with the expansion of our Rfactor2 section, we have once again entered the VLMS, hosted by the Simracing.Club. This is a full season of endurance racing, which is sure to get exciting and competitive. The teams are almost full but with the VEC (Virtual Endurance Championship) fast approaching there will be plenty of space available to drive. To take part in these series you must complete the SRCA (simracing.club Academy) - Click Here for more information.

About the xenforo...
I will send some €€, as soon as my Euro account will not have 0.- balance.
However, I hate it will be spend on this, since there are FOSS alternatives like NodeBB.
Is there any specific reason to use this xenforo thing?

First of all it is up to you if you want to donate something or not, we are not forcing amyone :)

Why Xenforo? Well, 1 year ago we decided to go with it and since then we are more than happy with it. We do know there are open source alternatives out there, we even tried out a couple in the process of selecting our software one year ago.

A change right now would be possible, but also a big challenge. The Import of the XF database would be mandatory, no idea if it is even possible to integrate that into another forum software.

Furthermore you have to pay these days for quality software. I do get the idea of open source, but afterall work and quality wants to be paid.

The support, community and custom plugins by XenForo is extraordinary and we do not plan to change the software anytime soon.

Hope this little explanation is helping a bit :)

Thanks for the reply!

No question here. You guys are doing amazing work and I'm ashamed, that I didn't contribute in past months. Let's just say I'd like to use my EUR account, so no $$ is lost in conversion.

This is simply not true. I don't think you get the idea of open source.

Can't comment here, don't have enough experience with this...
Isn't it just plain old mysql? There is also this https://github.com/akhoury/nodebb-plugin-import-xenforo

The support, community and custom plugins by XenForo is extraordinary and we do not plan to change the software anytime soon.
Are they really "plugins by XenForo"? I mean developed by them? Or just random npm javascrip thingies...

Honestly, I do like the RSR forum, it works flawlessly. I also don't have much experience with web/php/js, so I'm not going to judge anything. If you guys chosen xf, it was probably for a reason.
You said xf support is very good, that is a valid reason to pay in my book :)
It's just... I would rather buy you guys a beer.
