Plug and play... that is what attracts me to this... I see too many questions unanswered on various DD wheel issues with various games.... and I do not like tinkering with hardware / diy etc...

Will likely go for the DD1 - FFB strength is enough for me on the CSW v2.5 so doubt i would raise the FFB to double of what I currently have... Its only a few high speed high df scenarios that clipping makes me turn down the FFB on some cars - Spa Eau Rouge being the main culprit and the long left hander in Fuji...

What is not clear to me .. release date for DD1 ... Will that also be released 10 December or earlier ?

They say the same 3 screw solution as CSW is used but the underside pictures do not reflect that - i only see 2 holes but ok... although I will need to borrow the holder from the CSW as that has 4 holes in it to fix to my F1GT...

This is the biggest pro which the Fanatec solution has. I don't like tinkering around and having complicated software needing hours just to get it up and running really turn me off.

@Invincible @SlowBloke You guys do know that you will still have to tune the FFB right? I’m sure the podium software they will provide will include a bunch of filters for you to set and change. You will still need to tinker with it. All DD systems are plug and play now.

SlowBloke the only way to get the DD1 in the beginning will be if you win it in one of their auctions. It’s a scummy way of doing it and a lot of people are pist at them. They want those frustrated to just go for the DD2 that way they make their money.

Yea understand some tinkering is involved but it still seems like a tailor made solution.

In terms of the auction... its not normal but I can live with it - Im happy with my CSW v2.5 so dont have to have it yesterday either - just had some £££ put aside for Rift v2 or the Fanatec DD - so now thats gotta be spent :)

There was a new video from Fanatec explaining everything around the new podium series:

Highlights:
  • DD1 will be on sale for $999.95
  • You can pre-order the DD1 during the auction for the regular price.
  • The auction will at least sell 100 DD1 bases
  • The auction will close after 950 dollars is reached or no bids are received within the time window
  • You can bid as many times if you like, in 5 dollar increments. You can only win 1 wheel base though.
  • They have a new steering wheel with metal magnetic shifters and metal analog clutch paddles on the wheel
  • They have 3 podium wheel bases, the DD1, the DD2 and the PS4 licensed podium series
  • The Ps4 version will be sold combined with an official F1-licensed steering wheel
  • All steering wheels will be compatible with the Podium wheel base series

Nice they were actually listening. DD1 with the DD2 motor for 1000€ sounds like a good deal!

Why not? I doubt Fanatec went through the trouble of certification if there wasn't a market ready to buy it :). We all have our hobbies so each to their own - I now cringe at how much money I used to pi** away on my old Nissan.

Oh I'm sure it will sell. It's just that you can't even properly setup/tweak FFB in console games. Spending 1000€ on PC makes more sense to me.
No customisation, triple screen, VR, 60fps+, mods, etc etc...

The Thrustmaster T GT Gran Turismo wheel is 500 at the moment  And this is double that!
Yeah, but the T GT is a belt driven wheel on the level of a Fanatec CSL Elite. The DD wheels are well above that. And in between you still have the CSW 2.5 lingering around. I think 1000 quid is a pretty decent price for a powerful DD wheel which comes pretty much plug and play.

That being said, I still wouldn't spend £/€/$1000 on a wheel base alone, unless I get stuffed with money.
